Cascade Puzzle's versus mode is a new browser game built on Tetris Attack's rules: the rising stack, sideways swaps, chains, combos and garbage blocks. No ROM, no emulator, no download: it loads in seconds on a phone or a computer. Play the eight-bot ladder or a real person online, right now.
Tetris Attack is the 1996 SNES release of Panel de Pon, with Yoshi's Island characters in place of the fairies. It shares nothing with Tetris beyond the licensed name, and that name is why it has never been re-released and is not on Nintendo Switch Online. The original survives on cartridges and emulators.
Cascade Puzzle runs those rules in a from-scratch engine tuned to the classic Normal preset: the 49-frame flash before a pop, the 9-frame hover that makes chains possible, the combo garbage table, the K minus 1 chain formula and the original rise-speed curve. The mechanics reference lists every number.
What that means in play: a 4-combo sends a three-wide rod, a 4-chain sends a full-width slab three rows tall, a chain clear freezes your rise for three seconds, and a clear made while topped out freezes it for seven. Skill chains work. Garbage is telegraphed before it lands and peels one row per adjacent clear. If you had a favourite Tetris Attack habit, it still works here.

- Versus ladder: eight bots from Sprout to Master. Each one plays its own board and sends real garbage from real clears.
- 1v1 online: Quick Match, or a private room code for a friend. Rollback netcode.

Tetris Attack multiplayer, online, with a friend
On the SNES, two-player meant two controllers on one console. Here it means one link. Tap Play with a friend, send the room link to anyone, and the match starts when they open it, on a phone, a tablet or a computer. No account and nothing to download for either of you.
It is real versus, not turns: both stacks rise at the same fixed speed, combos and chains send garbage across, and a clear made while topped out buys the classic seven seconds. Rollback netcode keeps your own swaps instant. Tap Rematch after the match and you are back in the same room.
- Private room: 1v1 online, then Create a private room, then send the link.
- Join a friend's room: open their link, or type the five-character code and tap Join.
- Quick Match: plays whoever is waiting right now. When the site is quiet, a room link works better.
Tetris Attack on your phone
Tetris Attack never came to phones, and an SNES emulator on a touch screen means a virtual d-pad over the game. This is built for touch instead: hold the phone upright, drag a panel sideways to swap, and hold the raise button to push the stack. Your board fills the screen and your opponent's board sits in a small window.
It runs in Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on Android, with nothing to install. Add it to your home screen and it opens full screen like an app.
How it differs from Tetris Attack on the SNES
- No Yoshi, no story, no character stages. The opponents are eight bots with distinct skill levels, and the finale is beating Master.
- Six shapes on the panels instead of the SNES art. Same colour logic, same board size.
- Online versus against a real person, with room codes and Quick Match. The SNES only ever had two controllers on one console.
- Touch controls that fit a phone screen, plus keyboard on desktop.
- A bigger puzzle side: three daily boards with a streak, a 50-level campaign and an archive of every past day.
Where the series is today
Tetris Attack itself has never been re-released. The rest of the family has. Panel de Pon joined Nintendo Switch Online in May 2020 and Pokémon Puzzle League followed in July 2022. On 8 July 2026, Dr. Mario & Puzzle League arrived in the Game Boy Advance library for Expansion Pack members.
Each of those needs a Switch and a subscription. Cascade Puzzle needs a browser tab. For serious competitive play on a computer, the community's free desktop game is Panel Attack.
